Painting with Passion
My love of texture, color and words started when I was growing up on a farm in Wisconsin. The colors of nature found in landscape and flora along with the varied textures seen on painted fieldstone and shiny or rusted metal, have continuously influenced my artwork. A love of words also filters through my paintings. Whether scribbling handwritten words or adding a collage element of typed letters or scripture, my art echoes an intrigue of how communication and spiritual connection have influenced my life.
I studied art at Alfred University in New York, and after receiving my Bachelors continued exploring art through a series of bright, joyful acrylic paintings. Recently, I discovered a passion for oil and cold wax painting, which focuses on colorful layers and varied texture, allowing me to incorporate a collage element of words and gold/silver leaf. This unique combination of texture, color, reflection and words woven in oil and cold wax layers, has brought my art style full circle to my current studio practice at the 16th Street Studios in Racine, Wisconsin.
